Czech Republic Mělník Chapel of Bones

There is a crypt under St Peter and Paul’s church in Mělník, Czech Republic, where around 15,000 remains were left inside a vault after a plague swept through the region. The piles of bones were bricked up in the 1780s when they were deemed a health risk and were forgotten about until the 1910s when the crypt was re opened and the bones were arranged neatly, then decoratively arranged into shapes including crosses, a heart and an anchor.
