Germany Dachau Concentration Camp

Dachau was the first Nazi concentration camp in Germany. In 1933 it was opened to hold political prisoners but later became a forced labor camp for Jews as well as German and Austrian criminals amongst others that invaded Germany. The conditions inside were horrific; people were tortured and more than 32,000 deaths occurred in the camp. In 1960, it was closed. The worst stories from the camp told of the medical experimentation that happened, including hypothermia experiments, scalding baths, etc. All records of these experiments that killed over 100 people were destroyed. Eventually, the Americans liberated the camp and freed the survivors. The site now acts as a memorial to those who suffered and died. There are exhibitions on the ground telling a history of the camp and informing visitors of the atrocities that happened here in these years.
