Germany Spree Park
The theme park was opened in 1969 it was the only entertainment park in the GDR, The area around the Ferris wheel was converted into a water landscape. Roller coasters, two game water courses, a stage, a Western town and an English village were added to the park. But since 1999 the park has had to deal with big debts. The entrance price was raised but it didn’t help in 2001 Spreepark announced that they were insolvent. the owners moved with family and closest coworkers moved to Peru. They shipped six attractions to Peru in an attempt to set up a theme park over there but Norbert Witte failed in his attempt to run a “Lunapark” in Lima.
He eventually was sentenced to 7 years imprisonment as he tried to smuggle a lot of cocaine with a value of £14 million from Peru to Germany in the flying carpet ride, his son was also imprisoned because of the drug smuggling. In March of 2014, Berlin bought Spreepark but the exact future of the amusement park is unknown. On the 10th August, major parts of the park were destroyed in a fire. Reports indicated that firefighters discovered two blazes indicating the fires may have been deliberately set alight.
