Italy Chiesa dei Morti

The Church of the Dead, ‘Chiesa dei Morti’ in Urbania, is where these standing bodies over four centuries old reside. Their twisted forms stand eerily, creepily, in a wooden display cabinet in a small room. All have their own tales of how they died; Down syndrome, childbirth, stabbing. 18 mummies stand in this tiny chapel, macabre and surreal but not something you would normally see, which draws you to inspect them closer.
