Romania Bran Castle

Bran Castle is located on the border of Transylvania and Wallachia. It is known as Dracula’s Castle and along with other castles such as Poenari and Hunyad, it is linked to the legend of Dracula. It’s a very beautiful medieval castle, originally made of wood, built in 1212 and was later reconstructed in stone by the Saxons of Brașov. Bram Stoker’s Dracula is a count living in a castle high up on a rock in Transylvania. Although Bram Stoker never visited Romania, his description of the castle is almost identical to Bran Castle and it is the only one in Romania that fits his narrative. Dracula is a centuries old vampire living in a crumbling castle and derives from local legends about the living dead that are immortal and prey upon people during the night.
