Russia Sports Hall

It was a very tight squeeze to get into this one, but pretty impressive when we did, we were greeted with this huge Soviet mural on the theme of sports and a hall full of plastic balls. Leisure time under Communism was viewed very differently to how it’s seen in the West. The State tried hard to control everything its citizens did, both at work and at play. Above all, sporting excellence was prized, as dominant performances in international sport were extolled as evidence of the superiority of Communism in all respects.
