UK Saint Jo’s Seminary
I visited this seminary with Gina, Mike and Danny, it was day two of out three day trip around the UK, the previous night we had slept in an abandoned synagogue and we got up super early so we could arrive at this place before the light came up, the way in was a bit of a challenge, but totally worth it. This place was notoriously secure, with tales of high pitched pair alarm systems, security and stories of police being called if you are suspected of being inside.
Once we had made it into the building we spent a good few hours wandering around capturing it. It was one of the most impressive buildings have been in, exploring the UK, we first headed for the dormitories, where the green walls with bed frames each in tiny fenced off sections for the kids to sleep in, the beautiful tones of the wood against the vibrant green looked beautiful in the photos. On arrival the many pigeons that now resided in the room all started flapping around in a panic, trying to escape, I guessed that they were not too used to seeing humans in there.
We also found the amazing spiral staircase that we had seen in photos, we wandered the endless corridors and marvelled at the stunning architecture, it was like walking the halls of Hogwarts and I almost felt like boys and girls dressed in capes and wearing wizard hats would appear any second.
The seminary was opened in the 1980’s, inside a copse and made with rough-hewn stone. Infant of the building is a large lack and even a waterfall, all sat on 150 acres of land. It would have been a peaceful and wonderful place to go to school when it was functioning, the junior seminary was for boys aged 11 to 18 and who wanted to become priest, they were taught as adults about philosophy to prepare them for priesthood.
