Vietnam Hỏa Lò Prison
A prison used by French colonists in Vietnam; first for political prisoners and later by North Vietnam for US prisoners from the Vietnam War. Only the gatehouse still remains as the rest was demolished during the 1900s. The French built the prison in Hanoi; it was heavily overcrowded with prisoners being kept in terrible conditions, tortured and executed. During the Vietnam War, US Prisoners Of War were sent there and it was also used by the North Vietnamese Army to torture and interrogate Americans including irons, beatings, solitary confinement and rope bindings.
